About The Griffey Clan
After research and more emails and letters than I care to count Griffey is Irish in origin. The
problem lays in the immigration of the O'Griffey Clan.
In America if the family immigrated to a large Irish community th O was kept, imigrate to small
Irish community the O was dropped.

O'Griffey that immigrated to Scotland, England and Wales the O was dropped and the Griffey / Griffy
remained. Griffin and Griffith are second generation variations and are English.

O'Griffey that immigrated to mainland Europe dropped the O and changed the spelling to Griffee.

With the same research I have discovered that all Griffey / Griffy in Kentucky are related. The vast
majority of Griffey's in Kentucky immigrated from Orange Co. Virginia.

I am still working on the tie and what country we immigrated from, but I am certain it was not
mainland Europe.

This site is dedicated to all the Griffey's who descended
from Joseph and Francis (Fanny). I want to thank all who have made their
contribution, too many to mention. With out their help what is seen here would not be
possible. I beleive all information here is correct.

I have run down every lead from ship manifest and have not been able to prove the
Griffey Clan legacy of us coming from Wales. Every lead I have run into a dead end.
All I do know is that Joseph and Francis were married in Orange Co., Virginia.

Before someone corrects me, there was a Samuel Griffey that came into Kentucky at the
same time as Joseph. I can put him there using land records and census that are
available thru Ancestry.com. But he too has fizzled. I can not find nothing on him
after 1840.

My notes: I mention Crab Orchard, Missouri a lot here. Crab Orchard is Elkhorn
a small one blink town between Richmond and Excelsior Springs on Highway 10.

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
