About The Griffey Clan
Please sign in to see more. After research and more emails and letters than I care to count Griffey is Irish in origin. The problem lays in the immigration of the O'Griffey Clan.
In America if the family immigrated to a large Irish community th O was kept, imigrate to small Irish community the O was dropped.
O'Griffey that immigrated to Scotland, England and Wales the O was dropped and the Griffey / Griffy remained. Griffin and Griffith are second generation variations and are English.
O'Griffey that immigrated to mainland Europe dropped the O and changed the spelling to Griffee.
With the same research I have discovered that all Griffey / Griffy in Kentucky are related. The vast majority of Griffey's in Kentucky immigrated from Orange Co. Virginia.
I am still working on the tie and what country we immigrated from, but I am certain it was not mainland Europe.
This site is dedicated to all the Griffey's who descended from Joseph and Francis (Fanny). I want to thank all who have made their contribution, too many to mention. With out their help what is seen here would not be possible. I beleive all information here is correct.
I have run down every lead from ship manifest and have not been able to prove the Griffey Clan legacy of us coming from Wales. Every lead I have run into a dead end. All I do know is that Joseph and Francis were married in Orange Co., Virginia.
Before someone corrects me, there was a Samuel Griffey that came into Kentucky at the same time as Joseph. I can put him there using land records and census that are available thru Ancestry.com. But he too has fizzled. I can not find nothing on him after 1840.
My notes: I mention Crab Orchard, Missouri a lot here. Crab Orchard is Elkhorn a small one blink town between Richmond and Excelsior Springs on Highway 10.
